If you’re trying to download the Navionics Boating App onto your iPhone, Android Phone or other mobile device, the following simple instructions will show you how to find the app and download it onto your device.
Here’s how to download the Navionics Boating App:
- Open the App Store or Google Play Store and search for “Boating”
- In the search results, you will see the Navionics icon and an app called Boating Marine & Lakes (Boating HD Marine & Lakes on Android)
- Click on the download button, and enter your Apple ID (or Google Play) password
- Once downloaded, click on the open button
- Once the Navionics Boating App is open, you will need to allow the app access to your location
- Then follow the onscreen prompts to either login to your existing Navionics account, or create a new account
- You will need to agree to the Navionics Boating App terms of use, then you’re ready to start using the app

As I mentioned in this previous post, having what is effectively a chart plotter in your pocket is an amazing tool and a far cry from the paper charts with which I initially learned my navigation and passage planning skills!
However, it’s not something I’d ever want to rely on. When I hear of other sailors solely relying on mobile devices for navigation, without backup charts of any sort, it definitely makes me uncomfortable.
